Most tools help you write; they give you a clean blank document with distractions removed and minimal layouts. Slant starts with a different approach: by default, you’re not given a document at all but a chat input.

Slant forces you to think through important questions: Who is this for? What are you trying to accomplish by writing this? What do you have to say on the topic that is uniquely yours to bring to the discussion? By forcing you to think more deeply, Slant pushes you to write something worth publishing.

Increasingly, our work is getting offloaded to agents, but writing anything important is necessarily a human endeavour. Being thoughtful about what we keep and what we offload is critical: pulling context, research, and data can and should increasingly be offloaded to better systems so that you can focus on the hard part.

Slant builds this into its core; any document can be shared with AI platforms to work with as a first-class citizen — with their own presence, comments, and suggestions.

It’s easy to let #2 get out of control and just offload everything. The internet is rife with this, and you likely see it seeping into every platform you use. We need to resist that intellectually lazy path at all costs. Staring at a page for hours to refine one sentence is not a bad thing.

While Slant embraces collaboration with AI, it draws boundaries as well. They cannot directly write to your final draft, only provide interim drafts for inspiration. Any suggestions they make are marked permanently as such, so your readers have a clear view on what actually came from you.
